8.) The Reign of Terror (sep 5, 1793 – jul 4, 1794)
Description:
When the French government used extreme violence to defend and implement the ideals of the revolution. People who were believed to oppose the revolution were quickly arrested, and many of them were often executed. This ended when Maximilien Robespierre, leader of the committee that took these actions, was executed himself. This was important because it showed how even revolutions based on equality and peace can become out of hand if power is not kept in check.
