Sep. 14 —> King swears oath & formally accepts the constitution
CA dissolved — to be replaced by LA
Elections: (not what Robespierre had hoped for)

seemed that it was against republicanism + constitutional monarchy could survive — BUT:
significance of individuals:
Brissot elected —> fought to win over unaligned deputies
Lafayette + Barnave excluded from LA (due to self-denying decree)
the right is basically made up of ‘B-listʼ politicians (those who didnʼt manage to get elected
to NCA)
—> As a result: Feuillants lacked powerful leadership necessary to dominate LA — mood of unaligned
deputies shifted to the left (growing influence of left)
Structure:
2 year sessions
Self-denying decree —> anyone who is sat in the National Assembly will be blocked from the
Legislative Assembly for the next 2 terms
Rational: block powerful people, give more power to the Third Estate
Voting system —> based on active citizenship —> passive citizens no allowed to vote
male citizens over 25 who paid the equivalent of 3 dayʼs unskilled labour in local taxes
Voting style —> indirect elections, 45,000 electors
in order to be an elector: 10 days of labour in tax —> have to earn even more money (buffer
system between more radical voices through wealth)
