Family:
His father, Henry Coulomb, was a lawyer and royal administrator while his mother Catherine Bajet came from a wealthy family. Following a family rift over his career path his mother wanted him to be a doctor while he preferred mathematics- Coulomb was briefly disowned and lived with Louise Françoise LeProust Desormeaux; they had two sons born in 1790 and 1797 and eventually married in 1802
