Turgot as controller general of France (jul 24, 1774 – may 12, 1776)
Description:
Proposed free trade reforms and property tax. Dismissed due to poor harvests and opposition from the wealthy.
- Turgot is party responsibly for lifting those controls
- 50% lift in prices while he is in power
increase in grain prices, and subsequently bread prices; bread was an important source of food among the populace.
(this was the laissez-faire economic principle which failed)
this is failed experimentation and attempt at liberal reform (this led to the flour wars)
