The Hungarian Revolution- Kait C (oct 23, 1956 – nov 11, 1956)

Description:

The Hungarian Revolution was a 15 day nationwide uprising against soviet union communism and oppression, which were sparked by student protests working for democracy. The initial protests eventually turned into armed conflict. Prime Minister Imre Nagy was assigned to try and demand peace and asked for the soviet to stand down and continue to propose neutral, multi party elections. After starting to form a government under Nagy, the revolt was crushed by soviet tanks, which caused around 2500 hungarian deaths, deaths of 700 soviet soldiers, and around 200,000 refugees to run. Nagy eventually said that Hungary was removing themselves from the Warsaw pact. After the revolution came to a rough end, Nagy was arrested and eventually executed.
