The Cuban Missile Crisis-Kait (oct 16, 1962 – oct 28, 1962)
Description:
The 13 day Cuban missile crisis was a direct cold war confrontation between the U.S. and the Soviet Union, which was sparked when the United States spy planes discovered Soviet nuclear missiles in Cuba. This is widely considered the closest the world came to full scale nuclear war. The Soviet Union wanted to create an equal balance after the United States installed nuclear missiles in Turkey. The United States took action by placing a naval blockade instead of instantly ordering a military attack. The resolution of this was that Soviet Premier Nikita Khrushchev agreed to dismantle the sites in exchange for a pledge by the United States to not invade Cuba, and even a secret agreement to remove nuclear sites from Turkey.
