First Anglo-Burmese War (mar 5, 1824 – feb 24, 1826)

Description:

Since 1817, Burma had been expanding its reach well into Manipur and Assam, creating a long border between British India and the Burmese Empire. The British supported rebels from Manipur, Assam and Arakan and declared Cachar and Jaintia British protectorates, sending troops.

Convinced that war was inevitable, the Burmese occupied Shalpuri Island near Chittagong, which was claimed by the East India Company and war broke out next March.

The ended with the Treaty of Yandabo in which, among other terms, the Burmese were forced to cede Assam, Manipur, Rakhine (Arakan), and the Taninthayi (Tenasserim) coast south of the Salween River to the British.
