Before the crusades, Europe's economy was centered around manors, but the Crusades marked the decline of feudalism and the rise of towns as centers of trade and commerce. During the Crusades, and similar expeditions afterwards, various arts, goods, inventions, and ideas were introduced and exchanged between Europe and Asia.
