Description:
Using the skins of animals stretched into a durable sheet, parchment was "the most-used writing surface" from the time of the late ancient world to the European Middle Ages . While papyrus was restricted by its ability to grow only in specific regions, animal skins were more widely avaible to those who lived outside of area surrounding the Nile River.
