458 – 57 BC - Aegina’s loss of independence to Athens
- Athens' first conflict with the Peloponnesians
- naval battle between the Athenians vs the Corinthians and Epidaurians
- Aegina entered the conflict fearing that if Corinth’s fleet were defeated, they wouldn’t be able to hold out against Athens.
→ their navy suffered a defeat at the hands of Athens and their Delian League allies → League forces landed on Aegna and blockaded the city for two years; to help the Aegintans, Corinth attacked Megara, believing that Athens couldn’t blockade Aegina whilst protecting Megara

→ Athens and her allies continued their blockade of Aegina, whilst defeating Corinth
In 457 BC, Aegina surrendered their large fleet to Athens and was forced into the Delian League as a tribute-paying subject → forced to pay the largest amount of tribute (thirty talents) of any member of the League
