Tariff Imposed on Singapore by Malaya (dec 22, 1949 – jan 1, 2010)
Description:
Malaya imposed a 25% tariff on all SG goods entering the country, making them more expensive and thus less desirable and reduced trade between the two countries. Through merger, Singapore hoped to establish a common market that would remove tariffs, increasing the demand of Singapore goods and increase the number of jobs available.
