Description:War of independence fought between Angolan nationalist forces the MPLA, UNITA and FNLA against Portugal. In April 1974 a peaceful coup was staged in Lisbon, overthrowing Portugal's Novo dictatorship. The new regime ceased military action and granted Angola its independence.
