Description: The Rif Revolt was a revolt of Moroccan tribes against the Moroccan government in protest of marginalization and in hopes of gaining political and social rights. The military chief of staff, Prince Hassan, declared a state of emergency in the Rif region and led an army of approximately 20,000 to 30,000 soldiers to contain the uprising. The revolt was unsuccessful and estimates of around 2,000-8,000 Rif inhabitants were killed and thousands more injured. Political prisoners were also taken.
