Description:

Battle of Ismailia #2
Geography: West Bank of the Suez Canal
Duration: 18-22 October 1973 (during the Yom Kippur War)
Warring Factions: Egyptian army vs Israeli Defence Forces (IDF)
Weapons Supplier:
Egypt: primarily supplied by the Soviet Union
Israel: supplied by the United States
Description: The Battle of Ismailia was one of the last major clashes of the Yom Kippur War. After Israel crossed the Suez Canal and threatened the Egyptian city of Ismailia to take over and cut supply lines, Egyptian forces fought to prevent Israeli troops from advancing further north and seizing the city. Intense urban and canal-side fighting broke out between Egyptian combatants and the IDF. Although Israeli forces managed to isolate some Egyptian units, they failed to capture Ismailia itself before the imposition of a UN ceasefire that was declared.
