Loss of Burgundy (jan 1, 436 – jan 1, 443)
Description:
In 435, Burgundian King Gunther, still living on the Rhineland. For unknown reasons, he attacked the northern Roman province of Belgica, in response, Roman general Flavius Aetius, who had recruited an army of Huns, attacked and destroyed the Burgundians the following year.
Afterward in 443, the Burgundians were given a new kingdom in the modern region of Burgundy on the condition that they guard the Alps for the emperor.
