Vandal conquest of Roman Africa Loss of Iberia (Part 2) (jan 1, 422 – jan 1, 442)

Description:

After a few years, living in southern Iberia, Rome sent a military force to subdue the Vandal-Alan kingdom, they lost. After which the Germans led by Gunderic, pillaged Iberia once more until 425.

Genseric suceeded Gunderic in 428 and to improve his tribe's position crossed the Strait of Gibralta into Africa.

The Romans immediately began building an army to oppose them, but by 430 they had already taken most of the land.

In 435 a peace treaty was signed allowing them to finally become vassals of the empire, they were permitted to keep the territory they had gained.

Another war began in 439, when they took the last of Roman territory in Africa. A counter-invasion was planned for 441, but the arrival of the Huns meant soldiers were needed elsewhere.

In 422, another treaty was signed with the Vandals as victors.
