World War 1 (jan 1, 1914 – sep 1, 1918)
Description:
World War I was a global conflict fought between 1914 and 1918. It involved two opposing military alliances: the Allies (led by Great Britain, France, and Russia, later joined by Italy and the United States) and the Central Powers (led by Germany, Austria-Hungary, the Ottoman Empire, and Bulgaria). This has significantly impacted history, as it led to the collapse of four major empires (Austria-Hungary, German, Russian and Ottoman). Additionally, the war developed many new technologies, including mobile x-rays, sanitary napkins, zippers, teabags and daylight savings time. WW1, through the Treaty of Versailles that marked the end of the war, may have deepened tensions between Germany and the Western powers, which laid the groundwork for WW2.
