Civil Disobedience Against Apartheid (1952 CE – 1990 CE) (jan 1, 1952 – dec 31, 1990)

Description:

Civil disobedience was a powerful tool used by South Africans to challenge apartheid laws through nonviolent resistance. One of the earliest major campaigns was the Defiance Campaign of 1952, organized by the African National Congress (ANC) and the South African Indian Congress. Thousands of volunteers deliberately broke apartheid laws—entering “whites-only” areas, refusing to carry pass books, and defying curfews. These acts of peaceful protest drew international attention and inspired future movements. Civil disobedience continued throughout the 1970s and 1980s, often led by youth and religious groups, helping to erode the legitimacy of the apartheid regime.
