Maji Maji Rebellion (July 1905 – August 1907 CE) (jul 31, 1905 – aug 23, 1907)
Description:
In German East Africa (now Tanzania), the Maji Maji Rebellion began in July 1905 CE as a response to forced labor and harsh colonial policies. The movement united multiple ethnic groups under a shared belief that sacred water ("maji") would protect them from German bullets. Though spiritually motivated, the rebellion was also a political and military effort to end colonial oppression. By August 1907 CE, the Germans had brutally suppressed the uprising, killing over 100,000 people through warfare, famine, and retaliation. The Maji Maji Rebellion remains one of the most significant early anti-colonial movements in African history.
