Missionary Work and Assimilation (January 1, 1800 – December 31, 1960 CE) (jan 1, 1800 – dec 31, 1960)

Description:

During colonization, European missionaries traveled to Africa to spread Christianity. Missionary work was often connected to colonial goals, and many missionaries supported European rule. In French colonies, the policy of assimilation aimed to replace African cultures with European ones. Africans were expected to speak French, follow European customs, and adopt European values. While some Africans gained access to education, many lost important parts of their cultural identity in the process.
