The Shang Dynasty is the first Chinese dynasty supported by archaeological evidence. It was known for its advanced bronze casting, the development of a writing system using oracle bones, and a complex social hierarchy. The Shang kings ruled from a series of capitals, the last being Yin, and practiced ancestor worship and divination. Their achievements in metallurgy and writing had a lasting influence on Chinese civilization.
