Legalism in China – (c. 400s–200s BCE) (jan 1, 400 BC – jan 1, 200 BC)
Description:
Legalism emerged during the Warring States period as a response to chaos. It advocated strict laws, centralized power, and harsh punishments to maintain order. The Qin Dynasty (221–206 BCE) used Legalist principles to unify China, standardize weights, measures, and writing, and begin construction of the Great Wall. Though short-lived, Qin rule set the stage for imperial China.
