- The 'weekend' and the popularity of cars introduced by Henry Ford also meant more leisure time and increased accessibility to entertainment venues
- The cinema exploded with popularity, and Hollywood, being a naturally diverse terrain, allowed for a wide range of movies to be produced
- Suggestive dances such as the Charleston and the Tango became popular amongst the young
- Radios were household appliances and jazz dominated the scene
- "Wonderful nonsense" such as dangerous stunts and setting world records were common
