Agatharchides of Cnidus (jan 1, 200 BC – jan 1, 100 BC)
Description:
There are several classical references from the second century BC geographer Agatharchides of Cnidus, who, writing about tribes living on the west coast of the Red Sea, identified a group which excised their women in the manner of the Egyptians, and that another group “cut of in infancy with razors the whole portion that others circumcise” (On the Erythrean Sea – translated by S.M. Burstein).
Agatharchides of Cnidus is probably referring to an area today comprising by Eritrea, Djibouti and coastal Sudan.
