Rise of Macedon (jan 19, 359 BC – jul 19, 336 BC)

Description:

Beginning with Philip I which little is know of him, the focus of the rise of Macedonia is upon his son Phillip II. Philip II after establishing hegemonic control over Macedonia comes to dominate the Greek cities through the League of Corinth. Philip enacts a number of economic and military reforms with the creation of Phalanx infantry corps. The latter being essential to the swift conquests of his son Alexander, such reforms dominate military tactics until the rise of the Roman Empire. Philip II had designs upon conquering the East and was preparing an invasion force when he was assassinated om stage by one of his bodyguards. We are left to speculate upon the assassins motives as he was in turn murdered in pursuit of him. Most likely he was acting upon a plot devised by Alexander after his marginalisation following the birth of another son to Phihip of superior birth.
