Roman Greece (jan 1, 147 BC – jan 1, 476)

Description:

The Roman Age of Greece began in 31 BC when Rome took control of Greek cities. Even though Greece got taken over by the Roman Empire, the Romans loved Greek culture and didn’t try to get rid of it. They copied Greek art, buildings, and ideas. Roman leaders did almost everything Greeks did, stealing Greek philosophy, building theaters and temples like the Greeks, and even speaking Greek in the eastern part of the empire. Cities like Athens stayed crucial for learning and religion. Even though Greece was controlled, Greek culture kept evolving. While the Greeks were conquered, they still carried on many of their customs and beliefs, but they also included Roman ideas in the culture. They still believed in the Greek gods, but a lot of people also began following/believing in Roman gods and Christianity, which started in the empire. Daily life in Greek cities included going to the market, watching plays, and celebrating, just like before. The people still believed in education, beauty, and being a good citizen. The Roman Age marked a lot of changes, but also helped Greek culture last even longer by introducing it to the Romans.
