Description:
AA figure of significant historical importance, particularly for his role in the Protestant Reformation. His papacy (1523-1534) was marked by political turmoil and his indecisiveness in dealing with the request for annulment of King Henry VIII of England's marriage, ultimately leading to the English Reformation. He was also known for his patronage of the arts and his involvement in the Sack of Rome.
