Description:
The Century of Humiliation was a century in which China forged unsuccessful wars on Europe and Japan. It began on the First Opium War, in which Britain caused China to loose Hong Kong to the UK, as well as a whole bunch of war reparations. What followed next would be the Second Opium War, mainly involving France and the UK ,which caused the burning down of the Old Summer Palace, a location in which the Emperor would live, causing China to accept the Convention of Bejing, which allowed Russia to control outer Manchuria and China to cede the Kowolon, a part of modern day Hong Kong. Additionally, the Sino-Japanese wars caused instability and chaos for China. Eventually, after Japan surrendered on the 2nd of September, 1945
