- The pope asks Louis Napoleon for help and he agrees. —> The french military fighting against Garibaldi and his wife (redshirts)- war goes on for 4 months and **Garibaldi becomes a hero** or a martyr
- they know they will lose so he flees (whilst fleeing his wife dies although he escaped
overseas)
the Pope Return now Mazzini was forced to exile (his reforms were overturned by the pope)
