Forced labor for often Black prisoners (often imprisoned for minor crimes) that was a lot like slavery to bring revenue to the state

Poll tax
People had to pay tax to cast ballot- affected mostly Black Amercans who were poor
Jim Crow laws
Legal segregation mostly in south
Lots of lynchings for not following them/being seen as not being in their place
