Battle of Shiloh (apr 6, 1862 – apr 7, 1862)
Description:
The Battle of Shiloh was a major battle early on in the Western Theater of the US Civil War. The battle took place between April 6th and April 7th, 1862 near Pittsburg Landing, Tennessee and the Shiloh Church. It pitted Union forces led by Don Carlos Buell and Ulysses S. Grant against Confederate forces led by Albert Sidney Johnston and P. G. T Beauregard. The battle involved initial Confederate successes across the entire front however the tide started turning after the death of Johnston and eventually reinforcements led by Ulysses S. Grant helped the Union win the battle and drive the Confederates back. Overall, the battle led to 23,000+ casualties and became the deadliest battle in US history up to that point.
