湖北武汉人。1941年底参加革命工作，1950年5月加入中国共产党。红军著名将领陈昌浩将军之子，中国汽车工业的奠基人之一，也是二汽创建人之一。2022年8月22日，陈祖涛在北京逝世，享年94岁。
