One of the major diseases carried by europeans to the americas that Native Americans had no immunity to. Led to catastrophe in all populations in americas, especially on island of hispaniola where nearly everyone died. Causes red spots/poxes on people

members of highest class mostly nobles- got most of the benefits of columbian exchange, very rich, used a lot of their money on luxury goods from other places instead of investing back into home county
