Description:
The soviet invasion of afghanistan was when the soviets deployed troops to support the communist party and their government. They were facing an insurgency who were against communism, and so the soviets helped aid the communists to maintain power. It was justified as helping a government who requested aid. After a decade, the soviets were unable to achieve their goal and withdrew. This left afghanistan in ruins.
