Operation PBSUCCESS (jun 18, 1954 – jun 27, 1954)
Description:
Covert CIA operation in 1954 that overthrew the elected president of Guatemala. The Us was worried about his land reforms policies and thought he was communist. So they backed a military coup that installed a US friendly dictator. This was a turning point in US Cold War policy by showing the US’s willingness to intervene through covert operations in Latin America.
