For 42 years, the ambitious and disloyal commanders of the 5 Armies take control of Leyatalantu with their well-trained professional troops.They extort Emperors for higher pay, depose ones that act against them or don't pay enough, and install Puppet-Emperors when the Emperors can no longer afford to pay them.
The Captains eventually turn against one another and begin openly battling over influence in the Empire.
Economic mismanagament by the isolationist Captains' Puppet-Emperors, funding drained from public institutions and welfare, and all-out fighting between the 5 Armies causes a 42-year period of extreme instability. Banditry, famine, plague and revolts become commonplace.
