- radical right: **DNVP** and **NSDAP** (after 1920) they are mostly **monarchists**

- moderate parties had 77% of the seats in the national assembly —> by the time of the first Reichstag elections, this falls to just 45% (1920 elections based on new constitution)
- **rise in political violence:**

- soon after the armistice, **Freidkorps**, units are organised as a **paramilitary force based on former soldiers**
