The Stanford Prison Experiment (aug 7, 1971 – aug 16, 1971)
Description:
The Stanford Prison Experiment is a controversial one. This experiment involved harm and violence and was just an abusive experiment. This study had 24 male college students, and they were split between prison guards and prisoners. It took place in a building in the basement of Stanford's Psychology building, and was designed as a mock prison. Very quickly, the participants were right in their roles, especially the guards. The guards took the authoritative power and truly demonstrated who's in charge. It was a terrible time for prisoners, and many say they were paranoid and frightened. The results prove that if you're in a position of power, many abuse it. The purpose of this study was to demonstrate social roles and how it is quickly shown. This experiment only lasted 6 days.
