Hungarian Revolution of 1956 (jun 23, 1956 – nov 11, 1956)
Description:
-Uprising in Hungary following Kruschev's criticism of Stalinism
-Encouraged by the increase in debate and criticism, fighting broke out in Hungary and Imre Nagy became premier
-November 1: Nagy declared Hungary neutral
-November 4: The Soviet Union invaded Hungary to stop the revolution
-The US did not intervene because of the US Army study "Hungary, Resistance Activities and Potentials" which recommended against US military intervention to Hungary on the side of the revolutionists and because of the policy that anti-communist discontent was only encouraged within the Eastern Bloc through means of psychological warfare, sabotage, and economic warfare.
-This likely had little impact on tensions either way.
