Description:
-Democratically elected leader Guatemalan president Jacobo Arbenz Guzman was disposed of as a CIA-sponsored coup to protect the profits of the United Fruit Company
-The Guatemalan government was viewed as communist because Arbenz had formally legalized the Guatemalan Party of Labour. The fear was that the influence of communism would spread to other parts of Latin America and then, ultimately, the US
-The Operation was codenamed Operation PBSuccess
-The coup was motivated by both economic and ideological interests
-The same reason given for why the Iranian coup would have increased tensions likely applies here
