Eurith Dickinson Rivers served as the Governor of Georgia from 1937 to 1941. He expanded New Deal programs in the state and focused on improving rural infrastructure, especially roads and education. He created the Rural Electrification Administration to bring power to underserved areas and supported the establishment of a state highway patrol. However, his term was marked by controversy over alleged corruption and mismanagement of state funds, leading to political backlash.
