Wilson Lumpkin (nov 9, 1831 – nov 7, 1835)

Description:

Wilson Lumpkin served as the governor of Georgia from 1831 to 1835 and was also a strong supporter of the removal of Native American tribes from the state, in particular the Cherokee. During his time in office, he worked to implement the Indian Removal Act and oversaw the controversial redistribution of Cherokee lands to white settlers through land lotteries. Lumpkin also advocated for the development of infrastructure, including roads and railroads, to support Georgia’s growing economy. His tenure reflected the national push for westward expansion and was marked by significant conflict over Native American rights.
