Description:
John Houstoun served as governor of Georgia twice. During his first term as governor from January 1778 to January 1779, during the American Revolutionary War. As governor, he focused on organizing Georgia's military defenses against British forces and helped coordinate efforts with South Carolina and the Continental Army. He also worked to reestablish civil government after British occupation had disrupted colonial administration.
