Button Gwinnett (mar 4, 1777 – may 8, 1777)
Description:
Button Gwinnett was a British-born American political leader and one of Georgia’s signers of the Declaration of Independence. He briefly served as provisional president (effectively governor) of Georgia in 1777 and died that same year in a duel sparked by political rivalry. Today, his legacy lives on in Gwinnett County, one of Georgia’s most populous counties, named in his honor.
