Fourth Arab-Israeli War
(Yom Kippur War) (oct 6, 1973 – oct 25, 1973)
Description:
Arab forces launch a surprise attack to retake the Israeli-occupied Sinai Peninsula (Egypt) and Golan Heights (Syria) on the Jewish holy day, Yom Kippur, which coincided with the 10th day of Ramadan. US forces engaged in continuous resupply efforts for their Israeli allies, while the USSR resupplied their Arab allies. Arab countries put an oil embargo on supporters of Israel, forcing fuel prices to skyrocket.
The UN sponsors a ceasefire with negotiations between the US and USSR. This conflict leads to future resolutions such as the Camp David Accords and Egypt-Israel peace treaty.
