Second Arab-Israeli War (Suez Crisis) (oct 29, 1956 – nov 7, 1956)

Description:

The Suez Canal, which divides Africa and Asia, providing waterway access between the Mediterranean and Red Seas, is seized by Egyptian governemnt from a foreign-controlled company. Immediately following, Egypt refuses Israel access to the canal, resulting in a retaliatory invasion by British, French, and Israeli forces lasting just over a week.

As a result, Egypt is victorious and, under pressure from the US, USSR, and UN, Britain and France face defeat, forced to withdraw their troops. This results in both countries losing their place as world superpowers while the US and USSR replace them.
