Chinese Civil War (jul 1, 1946 – oct 1, 1949)

Description:

Causes:

Aftermath of the Second Sino-Japanese War - After Japan had withdrawn from China, both sides rushed to claim the Japanese-controlled areas, leading to growing conflict. Furthermore, Chiang tried to set up a new government that gave power almost entirely to the GMD The communists left the talks, further increasing tensions and causing the outbreak of war.

Ideological differences - The GMD supported a nationalist, capitalist, and centralised government; the CCP wanted a socialist, communist system based on peasant support and land reform. These opposing ideologies made it impossible for peaceful coexistence. Each side had mass support from different regions and believed they were the true leaders of China, leading to a fight for complete control of the country
