Second Sino Japanese War (jul 7, 1937 – aug 1, 1945)
Description:
Causes:
Japanese Expansionism - In 1931, Japan invaded Manchuria, which showed that they were willing to use force to expand their empire. Japan sought to establish themselves as a dominant force in Asia, and wanted access to China's vast natural resources and fertile land, as they were a small island nation with limited resources.
Weakness and Disunity in China - Throughout the 1920s and 1930s, there was conflict between the CCP and GMD. Chiang also believed that the communists were a greater threat than the Japanese, which can be seen from 1931 -1937, where he let Japan invade China whilst he attacked the communists.
