Cixi's Reforms (jan 1, 1902 – jan 1, 1911)

Description:

Cixi introduced reforms to save the reputation of the Qing Dynasty, which came too late

Causes:

Self-Strengthening movement - The process of learning from foreigners and copying their sciences and technology, and applying it in exploiting China's resources: Re-establish China's power.

To save the Qing dynasty - To save the reputation and existence of the royal house, Cixi had to please the mainly peasant population of China.
