-conservatives began speaking out against social changes
-his second presidential victory marked a pivotal moment in the country's shift to the right
-passed a lot of liberal legislation because he cared about the legacy he would leave (environment, economy)
-his obsession with his political enemies led to his downfall
-the Supreme Court advanced women's rights

Silent Majority:
-Nixon's supporters that did not publically assert their voices in protests or movements

Pursued two strategies for victory in Vietnam: diplomatic and military
Detente - easing of conflict between the US and Soviet Union by focusing on issues of common concern such as arms control and trade
